Two goals from Robbie Pearce sealed Rutland Rangers' victory over local rivals Uppingham Town on Wednesday evening.

The youngster scored both goals at Tod's Piece to give Rangers their first ever win in the Peterborough League premier division.

It was the perfect response to Saturday's disappointing 3-2 home defeat by AFC Fletton.

Uppingham are still seeking their first points after also losing at home at the weekend.

Andy Sayers missed a golden chance early on for Town but fired wide when clean through on goalkeeper Shane Hicks.

Jamie Saddington then had two decent efforts on goal, the second of which was tipped round the post by goalkeeper Graham Williams.

Richard Nelson hit the crossbar for Rangers as they began to come into the match before team-mate Sam Munton had a header hacked off the line.

Rangers took the lead 10 minutes before the break when Pearce struck home a deflected effort past Williams.

There were chances at either end before Pearce scrambled home his second at the death.
