Firefighters are warning drivers to be careful on rural roads at night following two crashes in Rutland.
Crews from Oakham were called to the crash at 9.30pm on Friday night on the road between Edith Weston and Manton.
Two appliances and a heavy rescue unit attended the scene where a car had been involved in a heavy impact collision. The front of the vehicle was located in a roadside ditch and the rear part of the vehicle was 30 meters away on the carriageway.
One person was in the front part of the vehicle trapped and being attended to by paramedics and two members of the public.
The road was closed while fire crews got to work making the vehicle safe and then removing wreckage which was hampering rescue operations.
Watch manager Mark Draper said: "It was soon ascertained that the vehicle roof would have to be removed in order to get the casualty out safely and this was quickly done using hydraulic cutting equipment."
The casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Mr Draper said: "We would like to take this opportunity to ask drivers to be aware that many collisions occur on country roads at night and everyone should drive with care and consideration at all times, especially in the dark.
"Concentrate when driving because your life and the lives of those travelling with you depend on it."
The second accident happened on Station Road in Whissendine at 2.50am on Saturday morning.
The crew arrived to find a car which had hit a tree. No one was trapped but three people were injured and out of the vehicle, two lying on the roadside and one sitting beside the road.
Fire crews closed the road and made the vehicle and area safe while two casulaties were treated at the scene and one taken to hospital by ambulance.
