The Mellstock Band, who play authentic English instruments and appeared in the movie Pride and Prejudice, will perform on Friday, August 22, at South Luffenham.
The band take their name from the works of Thomas Hardy.

With their authentic instruments and songs they have performed all over England, and taken their folk music to Europe, Africa and America.

Tomorrow's concert is at St Mary The Virgin church as part of South Luffenham Feast Week.

As well as Pride and Prejudice they have also appeared in the BBC production of Tess of the d'Urbervilles.

The fiddle and concertina are both known to have been played by Hardy himself.

He often mentions clarinet, flute and oboe, and The Mellstock Band play the versions of these instruments that would have been current in Hardy's time.

The band plays a range of shows, which it says are unique entertainments of music, song and spoken word, using authentic instruments and period costume.

Tomorrow's performance is The Shepherd's Calendar, which celebrates merrymaking and courtship through the country year.
Doors open at 7.15pm.
