A local airfield will be hosting a 1940s nostalgia weekend from September 12 to 14 to honour the men who fought in one of the most daring operations in the Second World War.
British, American and Polish veterans will be gathering at Spanhoe Airfield near Laxton to mark Operation Market Garden with an airshow, dance and a special parachute drop.
During the war Spanhoe was home to the 315th Troop Carrier Group that took paratroopers over to take part in the ill-fated Operation Market Garden, which aimed to capture eight bridges on the Dutch and German border in September 1944.
A highlight of the Operation Market Garden event will be a re-creation of that parachute drop by the current 82nd Airborne, which will be their first drop in England since the war.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Mustang and a Dakota will be taking part in an airshow plus the event will also include living history displays, battle renactments, tank rides and stalls.
A big band dance with music by Ray McVay and Glenn Miller Orchstera will be held on the Saturday night. Tickets for this cost £13.50 in advance or £15 on the door.
A remembrance parade and service, attended by the British Regimental Para band, will be held on the Sunday morning.
The weekend will be raising money for a number fo charities including Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion.
